Qatar News Agency reported that the QSE general index fell by 0.42 percent at the start of Wednesday’s trading. It lost 42.61 points to reach 10,211 points under pressure from all sectors. The agency highlighted that the decline affected every tracked category from insurance to transportation. This opening performance sets the tone for the remainder of the session as participants assess broader economic signals.

According to Qatar News Agency data the insurance sector declined 0.25 percent and consumer goods and services fell 0.27 percent. Banks and financial services were down 0.28 percent with telecoms losing 0.43 percent while real estate dropped 0.45 percent. Industrials shed 0.47 percent and transportation posted a 1.04 percent loss. By 10 a.m. the exchange had processed 2,868 transactions valued at QR 41.033 million across 21.036 million shares.

Qatar Stock Exchange data from July 7 showed the index closing at 10,254.60 points. Trading Economics figures placed the one-month gain at 1.61 percent while noting the benchmark remained 5.35 percent below its level from a year prior. The latest drop extends a year-to-date loss that stands at approximately 5 percent according to exchange compilations.

Qatar Stock Exchange figures place the bourse’s market capitalisation at around QR 618 billion. This comes as the platform lists dozens of companies across key economic sectors including energy, banking and real estate. Recent full-day trading volumes have frequently surpassed 100 million shares with values exceeding QR 293 million according to the exchange’s reports.

The Peninsula reported that the QSE began 2026 on a bullish note with the index climbing above 10,785 points in early January. Marginal gains were also registered during May before a shift to more varied results in subsequent months. Market participants continue to track these movements for insights into confidence surrounding Qatar’s diversified economy beyond its traditional energy base.
