The Qatar News Agency reported that the Qatar Stock Exchange general index decreased by 21.83 points, or 0.22 percent, at the start of Sunday’s trading to reach 9,751 points. The move came under pressure from five sectors even as the prior session had closed at 9,772.83 points following its own decline of 0.76 percent. Qatar Stock Exchange data confirmed the opening level and the point drop from the previous close.
Market data from the exchange showed gains confined to the Telecoms sector, which rose 0.62 percent, and Consumer Goods and Services, which added 0.24 percent. Offsetting advances came in Banks and Financial Services, which eased 0.13 percent, as Insurance and Real Estate each fell 0.25 percent. Industrials declined 0.35 percent while Transportation recorded the steepest drop at 0.96 percent.
According to QSE data, turnover stood at QR 41.564 million by 10:00 a.m. with 20.582 million shares traded across 2,828 transactions. The figures capture activity in the first two hours of the session. Volume and transaction counts provide an early gauge of market engagement on the day.
Trading Economics data places the QE index down approximately 9.2 percent year to date as of mid-August 2026. The benchmark has also fallen 14.89 percent from the equivalent period one year earlier. Such longer-term performance follows a series of sessions in which the index has traded below the 10,000-point level.
A review published by the World Federation of Exchanges noted that the Qatar Stock Exchange increased its listed companies to 55 after the addition of Mosanada Facility Management Services to the main market. The exchange supported the launch of a USD 200 million investment fund backed by the Qatar Investment Authority and Fiera Capital to enhance liquidity and broaden investor participation. QSE officials said they see this momentum continuing into 2026 with a robust pipeline of planned listings encompassing both new companies and additional bond and Sukuk issuances.
