Qatar's QSE Index Opens Lower on September 2 | AI-Generated Image

The Qatar News Agency reported that the QSE index opened the day’s trading in negative territory in a release titled QSE Index Opens Lower. This followed a solid performance the day before when the index gained 0.47 percent to close at 9,852.83 points. A total of 125 million shares were exchanged in Tuesday’s session with a value of QR 375 million, according to the agency.

Qatar Stock Exchange data showed mixed sector performances in recent trading. While banks and industrials had contributed to the prior day’s advance, early selling pressure emerged across several counters on Wednesday. The lower open aligns with a yearly decline of almost 12 percent for the index.

According to Trading Economics, the QE General index stood at 9,852.83 on September 1 before the latest movement. The platform’s statistics indicate a monthly drop of nearly 2 percent as of the start of September. Market capitalization had risen to QR 592 billion by the end of the previous session.

Business Recorder noted that Wall Street and Asian markets also drifted lower on the same factors of elevated yields and oil prices exceeding 90 dollars per barrel. These international cues appeared to influence sentiment at the Doha bourse. Oil prices climbed on renewed Middle East conflicts, adding to investor caution.

CEIC Data places the equity market index at 9,920.7 in July 2026, highlighting a downward trend in subsequent months. The 52-week range has seen the index vary from a low of 9,663 to a high of 11,518. Such volatility underscores the impact of external economic and geopolitical developments on Qatar’s bourse.

Qatar Stock Exchange figures from the prior day showed 32 companies advance against 18 decliners with three unchanged. This breadth provided some optimism but proved insufficient to counter the opening pressures on September 2. Further updates from the exchange will clarify the full session outcome.
