Qatar News Agency reported that the QSE index edged down by 0.01 percent at the start of Sunday’s trading on September 6, 2026. The benchmark lost 0.88 points from the previous session’s close to reach 9,763 points. This opening performance was pressured by three sectors even as four others registered gains in the initial hours. The data underscores the mixed start to the trading week for Qatar’s primary equity market.
According to QSE figures published by Qatar News Agency, the real estate sector fell 0.19 percent while telecoms declined 0.27 percent and transportation dropped 0.33 percent. Offsetting these moves were advances in consumer goods and services by 0.19 percent, industrials by 0.11 percent, insurance by 0.06 percent and banks and financial services by 0.04 percent. The sectoral breakdown illustrates how targeted weakness can influence the overall index even when several areas show resilience.
Trading turnover on the exchange reached QR 51.3 million by 10:00 a.m., the Qatar News Agency stated. This activity encompassed 30.387 million shares exchanged in 2,169 transactions. Such volumes provide an early indication of liquidity levels as market participants adjust positions following the weekend break.
The latest movement follows a 0.1 percent gain in the QSE benchmark on September 3 when Ooredoo rose 1.2 percent and Gulf International Services jumped 3.8 percent. Reuters reported that Dubai led regional gains that day as UAE non-oil private sector activity expanded at its fastest pace since December 2024.
The Peninsula Qatar indicated that Fitch has affirmed Qatar’s credit rating at AA amid an outlook for strong economic rebound in 2027 and 2028. This rating supports the underlying fundamentals of the Qatari economy which relies heavily on its energy sector. Such affirmations often contribute to investor perceptions of stability in the local equity market.
Throughout 2026 the QSE index has traded in a range with openings above 10,300 points recorded in June according to multiple market updates from The Peninsula Qatar. The current level near 9,763 points comes as the market digests various domestic and international factors. Continued focus on diversification beyond hydrocarbons remains a theme in Qatar’s economic policy.
