The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre announced the tokenisation of the world’s heaviest silver bar, a 1,971-kilogram asset certified by Guinness World Records, as the inaugural commodity under its partnership with the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority. Manufactured entirely in the UAE by SAM Precious Metals from 99.9 percent pure silver to commemorate the nation’s 1971 founding, the bar was first unveiled at the Dubai Precious Metals Conference in November 2025 before moving to full digital issuance. Tokinvest, a VARA-regulated platform, will handle the creation and distribution of fractional interests structured as an Asset-Referenced Virtual Asset on the BNB Chain while the physical item remains registered on DMCC Tradeflow and secured in Brink’s vaults.

DMCC’s announcement detailed how the project transforms the record-breaking physical asset into accessible digital ownership without requiring investors to handle storage or logistics directly. The bar’s registration on Tradeflow, the UAE’s established commodity title registry, provides verified provenance and legal certainty for all fractional claims. Regulated secondary-market trading is slated to begin after initial issuance once all platform and regulatory conditions are satisfied.

Ahmed bin Sulayem, executive chairman and chief executive officer of DMCC, highlighted the continuity from last year’s unveiling to the current launch. “When we unveiled this 1,971kg Guinness World Record silver bar at the Dubai Precious Metals Conference last November, we set out a clear ambition to take it from a physical record into a practical example of commodity tokenisation, with the DMCC-VARA tokenisation framework as the roadmap. Today, we are delivering on that ambition,” bin Sulayem stated. The framework aims to deliver transparent, compliant mechanisms for linking physical commodities to blockchain-based instruments.

Scott Thiel, co-founder and chief executive officer of Tokinvest, confirmed that eligible investors including retail participants can begin acquiring the digital interests via the platform from September 7. Thiel added that the tokenisation broadens access to fractional interests in a unique physical asset supported by Dubai’s regulatory framework. The partnership coordinates roles across refining by SAM Precious Metals, custody by Brink’s, registration by DMCC and regulated issuance by Tokinvest.

Guinness World Records documentation establishes the bar as the heaviest silver specimen produced, weighing precisely 1,971 kilograms and measuring 1.3 metres in length. DMCC figures indicate the authority supports an ecosystem of more than 1,500 precious metals companies alongside over 700 blockchain and Web3 firms housed in its dedicated Crypto Centre. The launch aligns with the UAE’s broader push to integrate traditional commodities trading with regulated virtual asset standards maintained by VARA.

The underlying silver bar will continue to be held in secure conditions by Brink’s in Dubai, ensuring the digital tokens remain fully backed by the specific physical asset at all times. All issuance processes adhere strictly to VARA licensing requirements, providing investors with structured access to an institutional-grade bullion holding. This first deployment under the DMCC-VARA framework is positioned to demonstrate scalable tokenisation models for other commodities in the future.
