Etihad Airways announced the launch of its Beyond Borders product and experience on Monday bringing together the next evolution of its guest journey across cabins lounges dining amenities wellbeing and connectivity. The airline’s statement highlighted the world debut of new Airbus A330neo interiors at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai as a major showcase for the initiative with the design language already introduced on the A321LR now extending for greater consistency across the fleet. The carrier said the move reflects its ambition inspired by Abu Dhabi’s spirit of innovation and opportunity.
The new A330neo aircraft will enter service from September 2027 with 15 joining the fleet over five years according to the Etihad statement. These widebody additions will support continued growth in regional and medium-haul markets across Europe Asia and the Middle East where demand for premium travel flexibility and capacity has remained robust. The three-cabin layout provides four First suites 24 Business seats and 252 Economy seats on each aircraft.
Each of the four First suites includes a closing door for privacy along with dedicated space for a companion to dine or socialise during the flight the airline reported. Features encompass a 32-inch inflight entertainment screen wireless charging multiple storage compartments and a personal powder station stocked with premium amenities that passengers can retain after landing. Etihad is expanding its First class offering through both new deliveries and retrofits as part of the Beyond Borders push.
The Business cabin features 24 forward-facing fully lie-flat seats with direct aisle access and individual sliding doors for added privacy Etihad said in the announcement. Each seat offers a 17.3-inch screen options for both wireless and wired charging a large deployable table and dedicated personal storage space. The configuration builds on positive customer feedback received since similar elements debuted on the airline’s A321LR single-aisle aircraft.
Economy class on the A330neo will accommodate 252 passengers including a dedicated 32-seat extra legroom section with four additional inches of pitch according to the carrier’s details. All Economy seats will come with 13.3-inch 4K touchscreen monitors and personal power outlets. The overall interior design emphasises a cohesive aesthetic that ties into the broader Beyond Borders elements across the guest journey.
Etihad is backing the initiative with a $20 billion commitment to new aircraft and customer experience improvements that includes a $1 billion fleet retrofit programme the statement noted. The airline’s chief executive Antonoaldo Neves said Beyond Borders goes beyond the aircraft and the seat adding that it encompasses the entire journey from cabins and lounges to food wellbeing connectivity and guest care. Neves told Reuters the same day that passenger capacity measured in available seat kilometres was running 15 to 17 percent higher than a year earlier with August load factors reaching 92 percent.
The carrier has doubled its fleet from around 70 aircraft in 2022 to approximately 140 this year while increasing daily flights to 320 a 20 percent rise from the prior year Neves told Gulf News in a separate interview. Etihad expects to add roughly 20 aircraft annually over the coming years and hire about 1 500 new employees each year to support the expansion according to the chief executive. The Beyond Borders launch follows an August brand campaign and the early September rollout of the airline’s Wellbeing programme focused on restful travel.
