Emirates News Agency cited Russian officials in reporting that non-resource exports exceeded $114 billion in the first seven months of 2025. Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov highlighted significant increases in specific categories during a briefing with journalists. Copper exports rose 87 percent, aluminum by 26 percent and certain fertilizers by 42 percent year on year according to the minister. The growth occurred despite external pressures on traditional trade routes.

Alikhanov said that exports to countries such as China, India, Turkey, Belarus, Egypt, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates and Algeria increased more than 19 percent in the period. These friendly nations now represent 86 percent of Russia’s non-primary non-energy exports a ministry assessment found. The minister noted expansion in engineering products, non-ferrous metals and mineral fertilizers as the largest contributors in absolute terms.

The Central Bank of Russia reported that non-energy exports have helped to mitigate the impact of lower prices for oil, coal and gas on overall trade figures. Goods exports fell 2 percent to $114 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025 the central bank data showed but non-oil and gas categories provided some offset through higher sales of chemicals, metals and machinery. This shift aligns with long-term efforts to reduce dependence on energy revenues according to the assessment.

“This positive trend will allow us to achieve the export target of $149.2 billion for non-resource, non-energy products, including $111.4 billion of industrial exports and $37.8 billion of agricultural exports,” Alikhanov said. The minister expressed confidence that the current pace supports the annual goal. Growth was registered across all main industrial sectors he added.

A separate review by the Federal Customs Service placed mineral products at 56.1 percent of total Russian exports in the January to July period. Overall foreign trade turnover amounted to $388 billion in the first seven months of 2025 down 2.6 percent from the year before customs figures show. Exports totaled $232.6 billion while imports stood at $155.4 billion according to the service.

Bank of Russia statistics indicated the current account surplus expanded in early 2026 on higher export values. The surplus reached $33.9 billion in January to July 2026 compared with $21.5 billion a year earlier the central bank reported. Officials continue to monitor global price trends that could influence future performance in non-resource sectors.
