The Emirates News Agency reported a decline in gold, silver and platinum prices across world markets on Monday. Spot gold traded lower following months of volatility that included a more than 25 percent drop from January peaks above $5,600 an ounce. Silver and platinum values also moved downward in tandem with the yellow metal. This movement reflects shifting investor priorities in response to evolving macroeconomic signals.

A Reuters report detailed how gold fell to a more than seven-month low below the $4,000-per-ounce level in June as a stronger US dollar made the metal more expensive for international buyers. US gold futures settled lower amid ramped-up bets on interest rate hikes following a hawkish tone from the Federal Reserve. The central bank’s latest policy meeting left rates unchanged but signaled potential tightening later in the year. This environment has reduced gold’s appeal relative to yield-bearing assets.

Business Insider reported that gold’s sharp sell-off has prompted major banks to slash once-bullish forecasts for the remainder of 2026. ING lowered its third-quarter average price projection to $4,300 per ounce from a prior estimate of $4,850 while also adjusting the fourth-quarter outlook downward. Deutsche Bank cut its third-quarter forecast by more than 20 percent to $4,300 per ounce and reduced the fourth-quarter projection by 17 percent to $4,800. These revisions underscore the impact of higher interest rates and tighter financial conditions on demand for bullion.

An OANDA gold market overview found that all four major precious metals entered bear market territory relative to their January 2026 peaks. Gold declined more than 20 percent from its high while silver fell 39.6 percent, platinum dropped 35.5 percent and palladium lost 39.7 percent. Stronger-than-expected US economic growth combined with robust private sector credit demand has lifted interest rates and bond yields. Equity market enthusiasm around artificial intelligence has further diverted capital away from precious metals.

The Hindu BusinessLine reported that investment banks and rating agencies lowered their gold outlooks after the metal dropped over 25 percent since January 29. BMI, a unit of Fitch Solutions, kept a constructive medium-term view but flagged a more challenging near-term environment driven by Federal Reserve policy signals. JP Morgan identified buoyant US growth paired with accelerating inflation as the most significant bearish risk that could confirm a rate-hiking cycle. Central bank gold purchases have continued to provide a floor despite the broader pressures.

Goldprice.org figures placed the spot price of gold near $4,285 per ounce at the end of last week with recent daily fluctuations showing both gains and losses. The Emirates News Agency noted corresponding movements in local UAE bullion prices per gram across 24-karat, 22-karat and other categories. Such declines influence jewelry demand and investment decisions in a market where physical gold remains popular. Upcoming US inflation readings including personal consumption expenditures data will likely shape near-term trading direction.
