His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, inaugurated the 12th edition of the World Green Economy Summit at the Dubai World Trade Centre, the Emirates News Agency reported. The two-day event, which runs through October 22 under the theme “From Success to Scale: Showcasing the Green Economy,” is organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and the World Green Economy Organisation. Sheikh Ahmed stressed the importance of international collaboration in supporting the shift to a greener model that remains economically viable, according to the official account carried by WAM.
In his inaugural address, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum highlighted how the United Arab Emirates continues to embed sustainability as a foundation for development. He noted that innovation serves as a key driver of growth while international partnerships provide the basis for a more prosperous future, the Emirates News Agency reported. Dubai in particular has strengthened its role as a leading global centre for advancing the green economy transition, he added.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DEWA and Chairman of the World Green Economy Organisation, delivered the keynote speech. Al Tayer welcomed participants and expressed gratitude to Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum for presiding over the opening session, according to the WAM dispatch. He described the summit as a platform that moves beyond celebrating successes toward scaling proven green solutions into tangible projects and investments.
A DEWA assessment found that Dubai has reached 25.8 percent of its energy production from clean sources this year, surpassing the original 2030 target. The authority now aims to lift that share to 36 percent by 2030 and achieve 100 percent clean energy production by 2050, Al Tayer stated during the opening. These milestones reflect accelerated progress in aligning economic expansion with long-term environmental objectives.
The global green economy has already surpassed $5 trillion in annual value and ranks among the world’s fastest-growing sectors after technology, according to figures cited by Al Tayer. Projections indicate the sector will exceed $7 trillion by 2030, the Emirates News Agency reported. At the same time, climate finance flows still lag behind the levels required to meet stated ambitions, he noted.
The summit’s agenda centres on four main pillars that include energy technology and infrastructure, business strategy and transition, water and food security, and finance, a pre-event WAM briefing showed. Three cross-cutting themes, artificial intelligence, governance, and system enablers such as supply chains and the circular economy, provide an integrated framework for discussions. More than 3,300 participants from over 30 countries and 135 speakers are expected to exchange expertise on scalable models, the organising committee indicated in September.
The World Green Economy Summit has established itself as a leading international platform for dialogue on clean energy and climate action since its inception, according to DEWA statements. This year’s edition builds on that foundation by focusing on practical pathways that connect capital with technology and promising projects. Organisers anticipate the gathering will yield partnerships capable of accelerating the transition toward a more resilient and competitive green economy.
