The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange announced on September 25, 2026, that it has formally joined the SWIFT global financial messaging network through activation of its Business Identifier Code ADSEAEADXXX. According to the exchange, the live connection allows secure and standardized exchange of financial messages with custodians, central securities depositories, international central securities depositories and other market participants worldwide. The development directly supports improved post-trade processes while reducing friction in cross-border settlement activities. ADX described the step as integral to its ongoing infrastructure upgrades.

ADX said in a statement that the SWIFT connectivity upgrade bolsters its post-trade infrastructure and aligns with Abu Dhabi’s strategy to position itself as a leading international financial centre. The exchange noted that the move will deepen engagement with global institutions and lay groundwork for additional efficiency and interoperability initiatives in coming periods. Such standardization is expected to streamline communications that previously relied on less integrated channels. The announcement underscores a deliberate focus on infrastructure that attracts and retains foreign capital flows.

A Business Identifier Code serves as the standardized address for routing financial messages across the network, according to ADX’s explanation of the technical milestone. The exchange’s newly operational identifier, ADSEAEADXXX, integrates it fully into the ecosystem used by thousands of counterparties for transaction processing and reconciliation. This capability extends beyond basic connectivity to support more sophisticated post-trade workflows. The exchange indicated that participants can now interact with ADX using internationally recognized formats.

The milestone arrives as ADX continues developing its post-trade ecosystem through its subsidiaries AD Depository and AD Clear, the exchange stated. These entities form an integrated structure that the bourse believes will enable it to compete more effectively with regional and international peers for cross-border investment mandates. Building on this foundation, the SWIFT link adds another layer of global compatibility to the group’s offerings. ADX has positioned the combined capabilities as a competitive advantage in attracting international participants.

SWIFT operates as a cooperative linking more than 11,500 institutions across over 200 countries and territories, according to network data referenced in coverage of the activation. The scale of this infrastructure provides ADX with immediate access to a broad universe of financial counterparties without requiring bespoke bilateral arrangements. Industry assessments have long highlighted SWIFT’s role in facilitating the majority of global financial messaging traffic. For an exchange like ADX, membership enhances visibility and operational parity with established global venues.

The activation represents a continuation of ADX’s earlier engagement with SWIFT, which included a 2018 memorandum of understanding on distributed ledger technology applications in post-trade environments, reports from that period show. That earlier collaboration focused on exploring blockchain solutions to reduce costs and risks in capital market transactions. The current SWIFT connection builds upon those foundations by delivering practical, standards-based messaging today. Such progression illustrates the exchange’s sustained commitment to technological advancement in its core operations.

International investor participation in Abu Dhabi’s capital markets has grown in recent years alongside similar infrastructure enhancements, according to exchange trend reports. The SWIFT integration is viewed as another facilitator for seamless onboarding and servicing of overseas custodians and asset managers. By removing legacy barriers in messaging, the platform aims to support higher transaction volumes from abroad. ADX expects the connectivity to contribute to sustained growth in foreign holdings of listed securities.
