The Qatar Free Zones Authority announced that its chief executive Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani signed the memorandum with Judson Duncan, group president for global sales at Emerson, on the sidelines of the Qatar Economic Forum UNGA Special Edition in New York. This pact establishes a framework for cooperation in industrial automation, engineering services and technical support with the development of a dedicated operations center. The agreement reflects ongoing efforts to position Qatar as a hub for advanced manufacturing and technology investments in the region. Emerson’s related statement outlined plans for the Emerson Middle East and Africa Service Center spanning 3,500 square meters within the Umm Alhoul Free Zone.
The center will include the region’s first certified in-country flow calibration laboratory along with repair facilities and rapid spare-parts services for field instrumentation according to details released by Emerson. Additional capabilities encompass staging and integration for distributed control systems plus a training and experience center for customer operations teams. These elements are intended to help clients optimize processes, shorten turnaround times, lower costs and speed up project timelines the company stated in its announcement. The facility will open in phases with initial services launching in December 2026 and the calibration lab scheduled for early 2027.
A statement issued by the Qatar Free Zones Authority noted that the center will foster wider ecosystem growth through partnerships with Emerson’s suppliers, research institutions and academic organizations. Such collaboration aims to build industrial value chains while developing local Qatari talent and broadening access to specialized expertise throughout Qatar and adjacent markets. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani said “Emerson is one of the world’s leading global industrial companies and I am delighted to welcome them to Qatar’s Free Zones” adding that the investment will allow Emerson to tap significant growth opportunities in the area.
This development aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 goals for economic diversification and industrial advancement a release from Emerson indicated. The country ranks as one of the top three global exporters of liquefied natural gas contributing roughly 20 percent of worldwide supply according to Emerson data. Emerson previously opened a Global LNG Solutions Center in Qatar during April 2025 to promote innovation sustainability and skills development in the natural gas sector the company reported.
The Qatar Free Zones Authority has concluded multiple similar agreements in recent years to draw international firms into key sectors including emerging technologies logistics and industrial services according to records from its past partnerships. Examples include memorandums with Siemens Energy for a rotating equipment service center and with Chinese manufacturers for insulation materials production within the Sino-Qatar Luyi Industrial Park in the same free zone. These arrangements typically grant investors full foreign ownership tax exemptions and access to integrated infrastructure designed to facilitate regional expansion.
QFZ maintains a network of free zones that have attracted investments by offering streamlined procedures and proximity to major energy projects and global trade routes the authority’s prior announcements have highlighted. The latest pact with Emerson continues this pattern by targeting automation solutions critical to energy efficiency and digital transformation across the Middle East and Africa. Emerson has supported Qatar’s hydrocarbon industry for years providing control systems valves and monitoring tools for LNG facilities the company’s background materials show.
