The Qatar Stock Exchange general index stood at 9,681 points shortly after the opening bell on August 24, 2026, after shedding 6.77 points or 0.07 percent from the previous close. This movement reversed a marginal gain recorded in the prior session when the index advanced 0.06 percent to finish at 9,688.3 points. Trading value reached QR 50.649 million by 10 a.m. with 29.126 million shares changing hands through 2,689 transactions, according to the Qatar News Agency.

Sector performance showed gains in two areas even as the overall index retreated. Transportation advanced 0.38 percent while banks and financial services rose 0.08 percent, the Qatar News Agency figures show. The remaining sectors posted losses with industrials declining 0.61 percent, consumer goods and services falling 0.47 percent, insurance easing 0.19 percent, real estate slipping 0.19 percent and telecoms dropping 0.15 percent.

The opening decline continues a recent pattern of volatility for the QSE. The index dropped 3.38 percent over the week ending August 21 to close at 9,682 points after losing 338.27 points, The Peninsula reported. Financial analyst Mubarak Al Tamimi told the Qatar News Agency that the index had continued its decline amid selling pressure, ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region, and the absence of catalysts related to semiannual dividend distributions.

Mubarak Al Tamimi described the current situation facing the Qatar Stock Exchange as a strong correction driven by external factors and pressure on leading stocks particularly those in the banking sector. He explained that the current conditions do not necessarily signal the beginning of a long-term downward trend. The analyst noted that the 9,528-point level remains an important technical support level that could attract the attention of market makers and investors seeking buying opportunities at lower prices.

Trading Economics data shows the QE index has declined 3.15 percent over the past month and stands 14.43 percent lower than the level recorded a year earlier. The benchmark reached an all-time high of 14,931.08 points in April 2022 before entering a period of correction that has persisted into 2026. Market capitalization stood at QR 583.35 billion at the close of the previous session, up slightly from the prior day.

Recent weekly data from countryeconomy.com indicates the index has fallen in several sessions during August after trading above 10,000 points earlier in the month. The Qatar News Agency has tracked consistent activity across 54 listed companies with varying levels of participation from domestic and international investors. Such movements reflect broader trends observed across regional bourses where external pressures have influenced trading patterns.
