Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, met with Paul Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Airports, on September 17, 2026 to examine opportunities for closer coordination under their ongoing strategic partnership, a WAM report stated. The two sides examined traffic management projects and solutions intended to enhance flow along major corridors connecting to and from Dubai International Airport. Discussions also covered future transport infrastructure for Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport and the surrounding Dubai South area.
According to the WAM report, the meeting emphasised greater alignment between the road and public transport systems with aviation sector requirements to create seamless mobility options for residents and visitors alike. Al Tayer highlighted that integration of transport and aviation systems remains central to Dubai’s strategy for sustaining its status as a global centre for business, tourism and aviation. The RTA official added that leadership directives continue to guide investments in world-class infrastructure that supports long-term growth across the emirate.
WAM reported that the officials reviewed RTA plans for road upgrades and expanded public transport services designed to match projected increases in activity at Al Maktoum International Airport and Dubai South. These initiatives aim to improve access from all parts of the emirate while reducing journey times for passengers arriving or departing via air travel. Senior representatives from both organisations participated in the discussions to ensure alignment on implementation timelines.
Paul Griffiths said in remarks carried by WAM, “Close collaboration with RTA is essential to shaping a seamless, integrated travel experience for our guests, from the moment they set out for the airport and throughout every stage of their journey.” The Dubai Airports chief executive noted that such integration forms a core part of the vision for reimagining travel as Dubai moves into its next growth phase. Griffiths stressed that coordination with road networks and all public transport modes will prove vital for handling rising passenger numbers.
Data from Dubai Airports indicate the emirate’s aviation sector has seen consistent expansion, with Dubai International Airport maintaining its position among the world’s busiest for international traffic. The WAM report noted that future capacity at Al Maktoum International Airport forms a key element of broader urban development plans for Dubai South. Both parties agreed to maintain regular coordination to synchronise transport projects with aviation growth targets.
The meeting forms part of a series of collaborative efforts between the RTA and Dubai Airports that have previously addressed multimodal connectivity and traffic optimisation around airport facilities, according to authority statements. Officials examined how enhanced first- and last-mile links can support overall mobility objectives across the emirate. Further joint working groups are expected to translate the latest discussions into specific project pipelines over coming months.
