The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry discussed elevating its economic partnership with Uganda to strategic levels during a meeting at its headquarters on August 11, 2025, with Uganda’s Ambassador to the UAE Zaake Wanume Kibedi, according to the Emirates News Agency. Chamber Chairman Abdallah Sultan Al Owais and Director-General Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi joined senior representatives from both sides for the talks, which built on the successes of a prior Sharjah trade mission to Uganda. Discussions centered on promoting mutual trade benefits and identifying high-potential opportunities while enhancing communication between businesses and investors.
Priority sectors included renewable energy, food security, agro-processing industries, infrastructure and technology, the agency reported. Al Owais reaffirmed the robust bilateral relations between the UAE and Uganda and highlighted the chamber’s role in facilitating value-driven partnerships. The Ugandan delegation described Sharjah as a vital gateway for its exports to Middle Eastern, Asian and European markets and a key source of investment and technology, while outlining economic events scheduled in Uganda for 2026.
Forbes Africa reported that the total trade portfolio between the UAE and Uganda reached $2.85 billion in 2024, a sharp rise from $600 million in 2018, with the UAE becoming Uganda’s top export market at $1.35 billion, largely in gold and coffee. United Nations COMTRADE data places UAE imports from Uganda at $2.41 billion for the same year. The Ugandan side expressed its aspiration to deepen partnerships that support sustainable development goals of both countries.
In a separate meeting on January 14, 2025, the chamber engaged a Jordanian delegation led by Consul General Asem Mohamed Ababneh and Amman Chamber of Commerce Chairman Khalil HajjTawfiq to strengthen trade and investment cooperation, WAM reported. The discussions focused on activating a joint cooperation agreement, organising business forums and increasing Jordanian participation in Sharjah exhibitions. Both sides agreed to facilitate economic delegation visits to elevate commercial relations.
Al Owais noted that UAE investments in Jordan had surpassed $4 billion by the end of 2023, representing 14 percent of the country’s total foreign direct investment. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement signed in October 2024 between the UAE and Jordan maintains liberalisation on more than 98 percent of tariff items, according to the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism. The Jordanian officials praised Sharjah as a distinguished regional economic hub and thanked the chamber for its efforts to promote mutual investment in key sectors.
The chamber’s Director-General Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi and other officials attended both engagements, underscoring the institution’s commitment to supporting its private sector members through international networks. Similar initiatives have seen the Sharjah Chamber engage with business communities from countries across Africa, Asia and Europe in recent years. These meetings aim to create new partnerships, boost trade exchange and align with broader economic development objectives.
