The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) is implementing a package of projects valued at more than AED7.1 million to expand and upgrade the natural gas network in various areas of Sharjah City, according to a statement reported by WAM. These projects aim to develop infrastructure, meet growing demand and provide customers with high-quality services in line with international safety standards. SEWA’s initiative forms part of sustained efforts to integrate additional districts into the emirate’s gas supply system as urban development accelerates.
Among the works underway is the Al Hamah Gas Transmission Line Project, budgeted at AED3.3 million for a 9,343-metre line that has achieved 90 percent progress and is scheduled for completion in September 2026. SEWA is also developing the natural gas network in Al Muwardah 6 at a cost of AED843,244 across 10 kilometres, where construction stands at 20 percent and full operation is expected by the end of March 2027. The authority’s progress reports indicate that these projects are proceeding according to plan with a focus on quality.
In the Al Badea District, an 8.9-kilometre natural gas network is being developed for AED1.16 million and has reached 25 percent completion with a target finish by the end of March 2027. SEWA will additionally start the Al Qutaina 3 Gas Network Development Project, which is valued at AED1.80 million and covers 18.4 kilometres, as coordination for approvals continues ahead of a July 2027 completion. Ibrahim Al Balghouni, Director of the Natural Gas Department at SEWA, said that the authority adopts advanced technologies and best practices for network installation and maintenance, applies the highest health and safety standards, and ensures projects are delivered on schedule. Al Balghouni noted the importance of such standards in supporting sustainable growth across the emirate. The director’s comments underscore the technical rigor applied to all phases of the expansion.
The current programme follows SEWA’s earlier completion of the natural gas network in Al Hamriyah, which spans more than 89 kilometres at a cost of AED14 million and serves 1,655 users.
This prior success was detailed in a July 2025 Zawya report. A similar project in Umm Fannain was finalised with 38 kilometres of network for AED4 million benefiting 603 residents, according to coverage in Al Khaleej newspaper.
SEWA’s efforts align with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to bolster infrastructure projects and enhance living standards for citizens and residents. Natural gas is promoted as an environmentally friendly, constantly available and safer alternative to traditional cylinders for residential, commercial and industrial applications. The authority conducts continuous studies to establish stations and pipelines that can handle expected increases in usage throughout Sharjah.
