Qatar News Agency reported that the Qatar Stock Exchange general index opened lower on October 6, 2026. The index fell 18 points or 0.19 percent to stand at 9,267 points compared with the previous close. Early trading saw mixed results across sectors with banks and financial services along with real estate and transportation recording losses while consumer goods, insurance and industrials posted gains. Volume reached QR52 million by 10 a.m. with more than 23 million shares changing hands through 3,200 transactions according to the agency figures.

The Qatar News Agency assessment found that the banking sector dropped 0.35 percent and real estate gave up 0.31 percent at the open while transportation shed 0.22 percent. Offsetting moves came from the insurance sector which added 0.25 percent and consumer goods and services which rose 0.18 percent with industrials up 0.11 percent. Telecoms showed a marginal gain of 0.05 percent in the initial minutes of trading. These shifts reflect ongoing volatility in the Qatari equities market.

Gulf Times figures show the QSE index lost 3.01 percent or 285 points over the previous week to close at 9,192 points. The weekly decline came amid pressure on six of the seven sectors with foreign institutions maintaining a net bearish position of $53.8 million year to date. Such weekly movements have become more frequent as the benchmark tests support levels near 9,000 points.

A report from The Peninsula noted that the index had risen nearly 100 points or 1.08 percent in the prior trading session to close at 9,285 points with all seven sector indices finishing higher. That session saw traded volume climb to 169 million shares valued at QR1.5 billion. The rebound followed a period of consolidation that had pushed the benchmark to four-year lows earlier in the month.

Moody’s Analytics data places the Qatar stock market index at 143.51 in September 2026 on a base of January 2010 equaling 100. The reading reflected a monthly decline of 1.51 percent from August. Year-to-date performance remains negative with the index down more than 14 percent since the start of 2026 according to compiled market records.

Qatar News Agency added that the total return index and the Islamic index both mirrored the general index direction at the open. Market capitalization held near QR575 billion in early trading. Participants continue to monitor developments in energy prices and regional economic indicators for further direction in the coming sessions.
