Qatar News Agency reported that Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed met via video conference with Lord Anas Sarwar to review economic and trade relations between the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom. The ministers examined approaches to broaden and diversify commercial and investment collaboration while identifying fresh opportunities for partnership development. Discussions concentrated on areas where both countries share strategic priorities, laying groundwork for deeper engagement between their respective private sectors.
Both officials underlined the value of sustained coordination and dialogue to advance shared objectives, the agency stated. They stressed fostering productive ties among Qatari and British companies along with investors to stimulate reciprocal capital flows. Such measures would reinforce trade activity, align with common goals and expand the scope of a forward-looking alliance between the two nations.
The virtual discussion continues a pattern of high-level exchanges aimed at reinforcing economic links. In February, the fourth session of the Qatar-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee convened in Doha under the co-chairmanship of Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed and his then-British counterpart, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. That gathering produced an agreed minute outlining steps to enlarge trade volumes and ease cross-border movement of goods, services and capital.
Ministry of Commerce and Industry figures show Qatari investments in the United Kingdom have surpassed 40 billion pounds. Bilateral trade turnover stood at roughly 1.7 billion pounds in 2024, confirming the UK’s standing as an important commercial partner for Qatar. Direct investment inflows from Britain into Qatar exceeded 6 billion pounds from 2017 through 2024, the same data set indicated.
More than 600 British firms maintain a presence in the Qatari market, the ministry assessment found. This commercial footprint demonstrates sustained confidence in Qatar’s regulatory environment and growth prospects. The latest ministerial conversation is expected to translate into targeted follow-up actions that build upon these established foundations.
