Brookfield announced on October 25, 2026 that it has opened a new office in Doha primarily dedicated to its global credit investment platform, which includes the Oaktree business. The Canadian asset manager said in a statement distributed by Qatar News Agency that the office will help strengthen its presence in Qatar and broaden activities across the Gulf Cooperation Council. The move follows years of investment in the country and aligns with the firm’s strategy of establishing local operations in key markets.

The statement noted that the Doha office opening builds on Brookfield’s existing partnerships in Qatar, including a $20 billion joint venture with Qai, a subsidiary of the Qatar Investment Authority focused on artificial intelligence infrastructure in Qatar and selected international markets. Brookfield indicated the new base represents a natural evolution in its regional expansion. The firm added that it plans to work closely with partners to explore concrete investment opportunities that support its long-term commitment to the country.

Jad Alwan, managing partner and head of the Middle East at Brookfield, said Qatar stands as an important global investment center. Alwan pointed to the strong relationships the company has developed with leading institutions including the Qatar Investment Authority over the past several years. He expressed optimism regarding promising investment opportunities in the coming period and the firm’s intention to continue investments and cooperation in Qatar on a long-term basis.

Brookfield ranks among prominent foreign investors in the GCC, managing assets valued at nearly $20 billion in the region across private equity, real estate, credit and infrastructure sectors, according to the statement. This figure reflects the scale of the company’s operations in the area. The statement emphasized that the local office will enable deeper engagement with partners to pursue opportunities on the ground.

Brookfield Asset Management oversees more than $1 trillion in assets under management globally, its website states. The company’s credit platform, integrated with Oaktree following the completion of a transaction in 2026, holds $416 billion in assets as of June 30, 2026, Brookfield materials show. Oaktree contributes expertise in opportunistic credit, asset-backed finance and related strategies developed over more than 30 years.

The office launch comes nearly a year after Brookfield and Qai established their $20 billion AI infrastructure partnership in December 2025, which a PitchBook report identified as the firm’s first AI infrastructure investment in the Middle East. That venture serves as a cornerstone of Brookfield’s global AI program that aims to mobilize up to $100 billion overall, according to reports from AGBI and Arab News. The partnership focuses on developing integrated AI facilities and expanding access to high-performance computing in the region.

Brookfield said the Doha office reflects its approach of embedding in markets where it invests capital to better identify and execute opportunities. The firm indicated this will further its commitment to Qatar and the wider GCC. The statement concluded that the company looks forward to sustained collaboration with local institutions.
