The Central Bank of the UAE’s annual statistical report detailed robust expansion across the insurance industry last year. Total assets reached Dh164.9 billion at the end of 2025, a 6.1 percent rise from Dh155.5 billion in 2024. Invested assets totaled Dh96.4 billion, making up 58.4 percent of the sector total and positioning insurers as notable institutional investors. The regulator’s figures underscore sustained demand that has allowed the sector to channel significant capital into the wider economy.
Gross written premiums advanced 14.9 percent to Dh74.8 billion from Dh65.1 billion the prior year, the Central Bank reported. Total paid claims grew 11 percent to Dh46.2 billion while technical provisions increased 4.4 percent to Dh96.3 billion. These metrics point to both rising business volumes and the sector’s capacity to manage associated liabilities effectively over the period.
Profits for insurance companies surged to Dh4 billion in 2025 from Dh2.6 billion in 2024, representing a 54 percent jump according to the bank’s assessment. The premium retention ratio also edged higher to 56 percent from 54.9 percent. Such profitability gains arrived as the number of active insurance policies expanded to 17.3 million nationwide.
Health insurance policies posted a 26.1 percent increase following rollout of the mandatory basic health insurance scheme, Central Bank data showed. The regulator counted 58 insurance companies operating in the UAE at year end along with 515 related professions. Available capital stood at 455 percent of the minimum required level, illustrating a solid buffer against potential risks. Insurance density measured approximately Dh6,500 per capita.
Earlier Central Bank interim reports for the first half of 2025 had already signaled the upward trajectory with gross written premiums at Dh40.9 billion for that period. The full year outcomes confirm the industry’s sustained momentum within the UAE’s diversified financial landscape. A separate Central Bank review of 2024 performance had placed invested assets at Dh84.9 billion, showing the continued build up of investment capacity through the subsequent year.
