The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority announced on Wednesday that the national aircraft registry had surpassed 1,000 aircraft for the first time. The registration of aircraft No. 1001 pushed the total beyond the milestone figure, the GCAA said in a statement distributed by WAM. National carriers operate 554 aircraft that represent more than 55 percent of all those registered, according to authority figures.
According to Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, the Director-General of the GCAA, surpassing the milestone represents a significant achievement for the country. “Surpassing the milestone of 1,000 registered aircraft represents a significant achievement for the UAE and reflects the continued growth of our civil aviation sector, as well as the confidence placed in the country’s regulatory framework by airlines, aircraft owners and operators from around the world,” Al Suwaidi said. He added that the development also demonstrates the success of the UAE’s long-term vision of creating an enabling environment that supports sustainable growth, innovation and global competitiveness.
Al Suwaidi stated that the National Aircraft Registry has evolved in parallel with the remarkable development of the UAE’s civil aviation sector. The GCAA continues to strengthen the country’s position in global aviation guided by the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership. This is achieved through continuous investment in legislative and regulatory frameworks along with the development of smart services that keep pace with the sector’s rapid growth and future requirements, he noted.
Eng. Aqeel Al Zarooni, the Assistant Director-General for Aviation Safety Affairs at the GCAA, highlighted how the milestone reflects the system’s strengths. “This milestone reflects the maturity, efficiency and international credibility of the UAE’s aircraft registration system,” Al Zarooni said. “Operating fully in accordance with international standards, the system delivers streamlined, transparent and reliable services that meet the evolving needs of aircraft owners and operators,” he added.
The assistant director-general pointed to ongoing enhancements in registration services. The GCAA continues to advance through smart digital transformation, continuous regulatory improvement and risk-based oversight, Al Zarooni explained in the statement. These steps ensure the registry matches the aviation sector’s growth while maintaining the highest levels of safety, operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
This progress occurs as the authority updates legislation, simplifies procedures and expands digital services in the aviation sector. The GCAA has rolled out the Government for Business Programme, the Zero Bureaucracy Programme and additional strategic initiatives to bolster the regulatory environment.
