Invest Bank Achieves Investment-Grade Rating from Fitch | AI-Generated Image

Fitch Ratings assigned Invest Bank P.S.C. its inaugural long-term issuer default rating of BBB+ with a stable outlook, marking the first time the Sharjah-based institution has entered investment-grade territory. The agency simultaneously assigned a government support rating of bbb+, citing anticipated backing from the authorities alongside the bank’s adequate capitalisation, solid liquidity coverage and improving financial performance. Fitch noted that the stable outlook assumes the lender will sustain appropriate buffers while advancing its strategic plan following an extensive restructuring.

The rating action recognises the continued enhancement in operating results, including growth in net interest income, sufficient reserve coverage for impaired assets and a robust capital position that has been reinforced through deliberate diversification. According to Fitch, legacy problem assets are projected to decline further over the medium term as the bank’s transformation initiative progresses, even as it operates with a relatively modest domestic franchise still in a rebuilding phase. The assessment underscores measurable gains in financial resilience achieved since the programme began several years ago.

Invest Bank returned to profitability in 2025 after earlier restructuring efforts and has maintained momentum through disciplined execution, a point emphasised in Fitch’s review of its repositioning for sustainable expansion. The multi-year overhaul focused on balance sheet repair, governance upgrades, risk management improvements and operational enhancements that have collectively lifted performance metrics. Fitch acknowledged these steps while flagging the institution’s smaller scale relative to larger UAE peers as an ongoing consideration.

Edris Al Rafi, CEO of Invest Bank, said, “Receiving our inaugural investment-grade rating from Fitch is a defining milestone for Invest bank and an important validation of the progress we have made over the past few years. This rating reflects the dedication of our people, the continued support of our shareholders, and our unwavering focus on disciplined execution. We have consciously worked to strengthen our balance sheet through focused diversification and digitisation.” Al Rafi added that the achievement represents a stepping stone toward creating long-term value for stakeholders including customers, shareholders, employees, regulators and communities.

The bank’s origins date to 1975 and it maintains a listing on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, with a significant partnership stake held by the Government of Sharjah since 2019 that Fitch incorporated into its support assumptions. Data from the Central Bank of the UAE show the broader national banking sector maintains high capital adequacy ratios above 18 percent on average, providing a stable backdrop for institutions such as Invest Bank pursuing recovery strategies. Fitch’s decision aligns with a pattern in which UAE lenders have benefited from sovereign support mechanisms during periods of balance sheet rehabilitation.

Further details in Fitch’s analysis highlighted expectations for ongoing improvements in asset quality and earnings stability, contingent on successful strategy implementation without material setbacks. The stable outlook signals that downward pressure would require erosion of capital or liquidity beyond current projections, while positive rating momentum would hinge on franchise growth and sustained profitability gains. Invest Bank has indicated it will treat the rating as encouragement to deepen its competitive positioning within the UAE financial services landscape.
