The National Planning Council attributed the latest movements to shifts across its tracked basket of 737 goods and services, which uses 2018 as the base year and draws from the 2017-2018 household income and expenditure survey. Four main groups recorded monthly price increases, led by transportation at 2.18 percent, while three groups posted declines with miscellaneous goods and services falling the most at 2.68 percent. Five categories remained unchanged from May, the council’s breakdown showed, illustrating contained pressures in key consumer areas even as the overall index edged higher.

According to the National Planning Council, the annual comparison revealed increases in eight of the 12 groups with food and beverages posting the largest gain at 12.74 percent followed by miscellaneous goods and services at 9.01 percent. Clothing and footwear advanced 5.04 percent, housing water electricity gas and other fuels rose 2.67 percent and education increased 2.09 percent while smaller gains appeared in furniture and household equipment communications and restaurants and hotels. Declines occurred in recreation and culture at 6.99 percent along with transport and health the council’s figures indicated with tobacco showing no change.

National Planning Council data for prior months placed the annual inflation rate at 2.20 percent in May after 2.62 percent in April as tracked through successive releases. The June outcome of 2.21 percent therefore reflects a broadly stable trend in consumer prices that has persisted through the first half of 2026 with food costs continuing to anchor much of the yearly advance. Such patterns align with the moderate inflation environment that economic observers have noted in Qatar where global supply factors and domestic demand interact under stable energy sector conditions.

When calculated without the housing water electricity and other fuels component the National Planning Council placed the June index at 114.60 points reflecting a slight 0.01 percent monthly increase. This core measure helps highlight underlying price dynamics separate from volatile shelter and energy items that often influence headline readings. The council applies consistent methodology across its monthly updates to support comparable analysis over time.

The National Planning Council has released similar CPI updates throughout 2026 showing varied monthly movements but sustained annual gains concentrated in food and miscellaneous categories. In February for instance the index recorded a 2.51 percent year-on-year rise with different group contributions that underscored ongoing but controlled inflationary impulses. These regular statistical releases inform broader economic assessments by authorities focused on price stability and household purchasing power.

Qatar’s overall inflation has averaged near 2 percent in recent years according to National Planning Council historical series with the latest June data fitting within that range despite category-specific volatility. The 12-group structure allows detailed tracking of consumer trends that reflect both domestic policies and external influences on imported goods. Successive council reports continue to provide the primary benchmark for measuring these developments in the Qatari economy.
