The meeting occurred as part of Robbins’ visit to Doha, the Qatar News Agency reported on July 9, 2026. HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari and Chuck Robbins examined current cooperation and opportunities to expand it in the fields of investment, finance and the digital economy. The two sides also touched on several other topics of shared interest during their discussions.
Qatar has made the development of its digital economy a central pillar of its long-term strategy. According to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the country is investing in advanced infrastructure to support innovation and technology adoption. A PwC Middle East assessment found that digital transformation in the GCC could add hundreds of billions of dollars to the regional economy by the end of the decade.
Cisco maintains a strong footprint in Qatar, where it has supported numerous projects in networking, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure over the years. The technology firm has partnered with local entities on initiatives ranging from smart nation projects to workforce training programs, previous company statements show. Gartner data places spending on public cloud services in the Middle East and North Africa at growing double-digit rates annually.
The Minister of Finance’s portfolio includes oversight of economic policy that increasingly integrates technology and finance sectors. Previous interactions between Qatari officials and Cisco have included a Qatar Chamber event where cooperation was discussed, the chamber’s records indicate. These engagements reflect ongoing efforts to draw on international expertise for Qatar’s economic goals.
Qatar’s non-oil sectors have expanded steadily, with the Planning and Statistics Authority reporting that they accounted for more than 65 percent of GDP in 2025. The digital economy forms an important part of this shift toward diversification. The high-level meeting comes amid broader initiatives to position Doha as a hub for financial technology and innovation in the region.
