Sector-specific data from the agency showed insurance falling 0.27 percent, the smallest decline among the seven categories. Consumer goods and services lost 0.41 percent while the banks and financial services sector slipped 0.72 percent. Telecoms declined by 0.74 percent, real estate by 0.78 percent, industrials by 0.86 percent and transportation recorded the largest drop at 1.07 percent. All seven sectors posted losses during the opening phase of trading.
By 10:00 a.m., a total of 2,614 transactions had taken place with a cumulative value of QR 45.713 million, the Qatar News Agency said. These deals involved 22.497 million shares changing hands in the early part of the session. Such figures represent only a snapshot of potential full-day activity, which on the prior session exceeded 153 million shares traded.
Trading Economics data shows that the index closed the previous day at 10,176.15 points following a 0.77 percent loss. The benchmark has declined 1.03 percent over the past month and is down 6.04 percent from levels seen a year ago. Year-to-date, the index has shed approximately 5.45 percent, reflecting broader pressures on equity markets in the region.
Qatar Stock Exchange data places the total market capitalization at QR 614 billion at the end of the last trading day. This capitalization covers the performance of 53 actively traded companies listed on the exchange. The valuation has fluctuated in response to both domestic policy announcements and international economic signals over the course of the year.
The Peninsula reported that the Qatar Stock Exchange started 2026 on a positive note with the index witnessing growth in early January trading. Market capitalization had increased by QR 23.4 billion at the end of 2025, providing a solid foundation entering the new year.
