Qatar News Agency reported that the index rose 0.66 percent at the start of trading, supported by positive performances in every sector. The telecommunications sector led with a 1.45 percent increase while banking and financial services advanced 0.94 percent. Transportation gained 0.78 percent, insurance 0.62 percent, industrial 0.24 percent, real estate 0.20 percent and consumer goods and services 0.03 percent.

According to the agency, trading activity at 10:00 AM included 3,444 transactions valued at QR46.157 million that involved 23.700 million shares. This early session volume reflects continued participation even after a period of downward pressure on the bourse. The activity comes as the market shows signs of recovery from recent sessions.

Data from Trading Economics showed the index closed the previous session at 9,682.57 after a 0.92 percent decline on August 20 while posting a 14.64 percent drop over the past year. A Peninsula Qatar article on August 21 noted the index fell 3.38 percent for the week to 9,682 with financial analyst Mubarak Al Tamimi attributing the move to selling pressure from geopolitical tensions and lack of dividend catalysts. Al Tamimi told Qatar News Agency that conditions represented a strong correction with 9,528 points as a key support level that could draw buying interest.

S&P Global Ratings affirmed Qatar’s ‘AA/A-1+’ sovereign credit ratings with a stable outlook in a May assessment. The agency forecast a 5 percent real GDP contraction for 2026 owing to LNG production disruptions from regional conflict. It highlighted that Qatar’s liquid assets exceeding 170 percent of GDP would buffer policy responses.

A QNB Financial Services weekly report placed market capitalization at QR581.6 billion at the end of the prior week when only seven of 54 traded companies closed higher. The report recorded 47 decliners during that period of broader weakness. Such dynamics preceded the rebound seen in early trading on August 23.

Oxford Business Group analysis from July 2026 observed that foreign ownership of QSE portfolios held near 14.7 percent despite earlier index declines linked to regional events. The index had retreated from 11,502 in February to lower levels by April according to the report. Longer-term market fundamentals remain supportive, the assessment found.
