The Emirates News Agency reported that the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority has finished construction on an extensive natural gas connection project in Dibba Al Hisn that carries a total cost of Dhs35 million. Implementation followed explicit directives from His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The development breaks down into three coordinated components executed simultaneously to deliver full service to the locality. These steps mark another advance in the authority’s long-term infrastructure upgrades across the emirate.
A dedicated natural gas pumping station operating on a virtual pipeline system forms the project’s core, according to the Emirates News Agency account. The authority installed a 46-kilometre distribution network that reaches Al Hay Al Shamali, Al Hay Al Gharbi, Al Hisn Island and Al Doub. Internal connections now serve approximately 200 residential and commercial units, each equipped with smart meters that allow precise consumption tracking. The Emirates News Agency noted that the entire scheme forms part of SEWA’s strategic push toward wider adoption of clean and sustainable energy sources in Sharjah.
Engineer Ibrahim Al Balghouni outlined the technical foundation of the completed works in the WAM dispatch. He stated that project engineers deployed the latest available technologies to secure the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency throughout the network. Al Balghouni added that natural gas supplies a safe, cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional cylinder deliveries that many households have relied upon previously. The engineer highlighted that the switch helps reduce harmful emissions while delivering reliable service to end users.
The Emirates News Agency indicated that the Dibba Al Hisn project fits within SEWA’s broader programme to expand natural gas infrastructure across multiple Sharjah communities in recent years. The authority functions as the exclusive provider of electricity, water and natural gas services inside the emirate under a mandate that dates back decades. Similar initiatives have progressively replaced cylinder distribution with piped systems in residential zones, producing measurable gains in convenience for local families and businesses alike.
Sharjah’s natural gas expansion aligns with national energy policies that encourage lower-carbon fuels, a framework the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has advanced through successive strategic plans. The UAE government has targeted increased reliance on natural gas as a transitional fuel while scaling renewable capacity, according to official policy statements. Completion of the Dibba Al Hisn network brings the total length of SEWA-operated gas pipelines to an expanded footprint that now covers additional previously underserved districts.
