An ADNOC statement said the meeting, held at the company’s headquarters, focused on advancing the carbon management strategy that seeks to connect all sources of emissions with sequestration sites to accelerate decarbonization objectives for both ADNOC and the UAE. His Highness commended notable progress made this year toward the accelerated net zero by 2045 plan, which includes powering operations with solar and nuclear energy while scaling up carbon capture. The committee also examined the recent final investment decision for the pioneering 1.5 million tonnes per annum Habshan carbon capture, utilization and storage project.
The ADNOC statement noted that the carbon management strategy aims to double capture capacity to 10 million tonnes per annum of carbon dioxide by 2030. This expansion forms a central element in creating a platform that links emissions sources directly to storage locations across the emirate. His Highness welcomed the tangible steps taken to reduce methane emissions and invest in hydrogen production as a shareholder in Masdar.
ADNOC has positioned carbon capture, utilization and storage as a key pillar supporting its broader energy transition efforts while sustaining reliable oil and gas supplies to local and global markets. The company continues to execute large-scale projects that balance economic growth with environmental commitments under the guidance of the Executive Committee. Such reviews enable ADNOC to align its operational performance with long-term strategic targets.
