The Federal Tax Authority sent a delegation to the BRICS Tax Experts and Tax Heads Meeting 2026 hosted by India’s Central Board of Direct Taxes in New Delhi, where discussions centred on strengthening cooperation in tax administration, technology adoption and human resource development among participating nations. Abdulaziz Al Mulla, Director General of the FTA, headed the group that included Policy Adviser Saida Kaddoumi Osman and International Relations Senior Analyst Meera Qassim. The gathering brought together heads of tax authorities and experts from ten BRICS tax administrations to address emerging challenges and share best practices.

According to the Emirates News Agency, Al Mulla stressed the importance of international platforms for knowledge exchange in developing efficient tax systems. He noted that BRICS working groups and the annual meeting allow countries to explore trends and practical solutions to common issues. “The Federal Tax Authority places great importance on strengthening international cooperation and exchanging knowledge and expertise with tax administrations around the world,” Al Mulla said. “Our participation in the BRICS Tax Experts and Tax Heads Meeting 2026 provides an important opportunity to learn from diverse experiences, share best practices, and explore new approaches that can contribute to the continued development of tax administration.”

This engagement continues the FTA’s pattern of active involvement in BRICS tax forums, following its participation in the 2024 meeting in Moscow where the delegation held talks with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. A year later in Brazil the authority signed a memorandum of understanding with Russia’s Federal Tax Service to advance digital transformation, training programmes and international coordination in tax matters. Such steps align with the UAE’s broader strategy to build strategic partnerships that enhance its tax framework amid the group’s expanding membership.

The New Delhi meeting focused on how technology can modernise tax collection while improving administrative efficiency across diverse economies. Representatives examined ways to tackle issues arising from the digital economy and evolving global trade patterns. The FTA’s presence highlights its role in contributing UAE perspectives to these multilateral conversations.

UAE tax policy has emphasised transparency and efficiency to support economic diversification, with the FTA developing systems that facilitate compliance and revenue collection. Participation in forums like BRICS complements the authority’s work with other international bodies on standards for cross-border taxation. Officials view these exchanges as vital for adapting to economic shifts that affect revenue streams worldwide.

Al Mulla’s leadership of the delegation reflects the FTA’s commitment to positioning the UAE as a collaborative partner in global tax governance. The meeting’s outcomes are set to feed into ongoing working groups that pursue joint initiatives among BRICS members. Further coordination is anticipated in future gatherings as the group seeks to harmonise approaches on key tax challenges.
