DP World and the Fujairah Ports Authority announced a 50-year concession agreement for the development of two new multipurpose ports at Al Rugaylat and Dibba Al Fujairah following a signing ceremony attended by senior officials. The Al Rugaylat facility is designed to handle 2.5 million TEUs of containers along with 1.7 million tonnes of general cargo and 190,000 CEUs each year while Dibba Al Fujairah will accommodate 3.6 million tonnes of general cargo annually. Construction will advance in phases over the next 24 to 30 months according to details released with the announcement.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi witnessed the signing and described the project as a strategic step to consolidate the emirate’s position as a global maritime and logistics hub. The announcement stated that the terminals will connect seamlessly with DP World’s existing UAE network including the major hub at Jebel Ali Port.

The combined projects will raise the UAE’s total container capacity to approximately 22 million TEUs upon completion the joint statement indicated. The Fujairah Ports Authority’s announcement listed job creation supply-chain efficiency gains and sustainability initiatives among the primary benefits. Located on the Gulf of Oman the new ports will offer shipping lines an alternative to the Strait of Hormuz a route that has experienced periodic disruptions. The authority added that the facilities will strengthen the emirate’s economic infrastructure and contribute to broader national trade objectives.

DP World operates ports and terminals across more than 80 countries according to its corporate portfolio data. The company said the Fujairah concession builds directly on its long-standing UAE operations where it has established advanced logistics capabilities. Integration into the global network is expected to improve connectivity for cargo moving between Asia Europe and Africa.

A report published by The Loadstar noted that the 50-year concession positions the operator to expand trade corridors outside traditional Gulf passages. The agreement aligns with ongoing UAE investments in logistics that have supported steady growth in non-oil trade volumes in recent years according to federal statistics. Both parties emphasised that the development will enhance the country’s overall competitiveness in international maritime commerce.
