EGA Finalises Acquisition of Italian Recycler Eco Green | AI-Generated Image

Emirates Global Aluminium said in a statement that the transaction for the Italian firm had cleared all required regulatory approvals and closing conditions. The company first signalled its intention to purchase the majority stake back in April. Eco Green will now be rebranded as EGA Eco Green, with the founding Scappini family retaining a minority shareholding and continuing in management roles.

The statement detailed how Eco Green operates two plants in northeast Italy that specialise in aluminium scrap collection, sorting and casting along with dross processing. The business distributes more than 70,000 tonnes of material annually and serves over 60 customers across Europe, chiefly in the aluminium processing and semi-fabrication industries with end users in automotive, construction and other sectors. Its Villafranca di Verona facility collects, sorts and distributes roughly 23,000 tonnes of scrap each year while the nearby Nogara di Verona site casts more than 20,000 tonnes of secondary sows annually.

According to the company an expansion project already under way at the Nogara facility will add 15,000 tonnes per year of recycled aluminium capacity. The Italian acquisition complements EGA’s existing operations that include the UAE’s largest aluminium recycling plant at Al Taweelah in Abu Dhabi. EGA has previously acquired recycling facilities in Germany and the United States where expansion projects remain in progress.

The deal lifts EGA’s combined aluminium recycling capacity to more than 400,000 tonnes per year across the UAE, Europe and the United States, the statement said, with an additional 200,000 tonnes of capacity currently under development in those same regions. The company markets its recycled aluminium globally under the RevivAL brand and sold 47,000 tonnes of the material in the first half of 2026. EGA also reported selling around 600,000 tonnes of primary aluminium to European industries each year.

Europe excluding Russia stands as the world’s third-largest recycled aluminium market after the United States and China, EGA noted in the announcement. A recent Mordor Intelligence assessment projected the global aluminium recycling market to process 41.14 million tonnes in 2026 before expanding to 51.36 million tonnes by 2031 at a compound annual growth rate of 4.54 percent. The company stated that the acquisition advances its strategy to build a global aluminium recycling business alongside growth in primary production to meet rising demand for low-carbon metal. Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, chief executive officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, said, “Eco Green makes EGA an even better partner for Europe’s green future and further expands our growing global aluminium recycling business.”

Bin Kalban added that the Italian company brings capability in Europe’s aluminium scrap market that will support the firm’s expanding recycling operations across the continent. He welcomed all employees at Eco Green to EGA. The transaction follows the company’s inauguration of its Al Taweelah recycling plant in June and forms part of a series of investments that have scaled its low-carbon aluminium offerings.
