The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy has detailed its contributions to World Water Week 2026 in Stockholm where a high-level delegation engaged in discussions to advance water resilience globally according to the Emirates News Agency.
Dr. Abdullah Humaid Al Jarwan chairman of the department led the group that met with representatives from governments regulatory bodies international organizations academic institutions and industry to identify opportunities for collaboration on water and energy systems.
These interactions underscored Abu Dhabi’s commitment to integrated governance as a foundation for sustainable economic growth and long-term resource security.
Dr. Al Jarwan addressed the ministerial panel Shaping the Future Through Water outlining the emirate’s more than 50 years of experience in constructing a resilient water network reliant on diverse sources efficient management robust governance and technological innovation.
He also joined the session Water Resilience by Design: Protecting People and Enabling Progress which focused on incorporating resilience into planning and investment strategies for both water and energy sectors.
“It is important not to equate water abundance with water security. The difference lies in water resilience. Resilience means building a system with the capabilities to make effective use of available resources and diversify them making the system safe sustainable and affordable” Al Jarwan said.
The department unveiled the Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Resilience Framework during the event an initiative that merges policy development regulatory oversight infrastructure strategies and innovative practices to serve as a blueprint for enduring sector stability.
The framework had been launched earlier in June 2026 at the third edition of the Water and Energy Majlis organized by the department.
Al Jarwan stressed the importance of converting discussions into actionable outcomes amid growing water pressures worldwide.
“Abu Dhabi continues to advance an integrated forward-looking approach to water and energy resilience built on long-term planning progressive regulation innovation and high-impact international partnerships” the chairman said according to the department’s statement.
“As water challenges intensify the priority must be to move beyond dialogue and translate resilience into practical implementable solutions that enhance system readiness reliability and sustainability while safeguarding vital services and supporting sustainable economic growth.”
The participation is expected to feed into preparations for Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week later this year.
In partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the department convened a stakeholder reception that attracted leaders and experts to discuss potential joint projects and Abu Dhabi’s advancements in the field.
“Water has no boundaries and neither should solutions. What works should be scaled and today we have the opportunity to expand proven solutions and turn them into reality. Partnership is the key and innovation is what will differentiate us” Al Jarwan remarked at the gathering.
The reception also helped generate momentum for the United Nations Water Conference scheduled for December in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Al Jarwan extended an invitation to international partners to attend the December events where they can present challenges and solutions to achieve concrete results.
The 2026 UN Water Conference co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal seeks to speed up progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation.
This aligns with broader efforts to position Abu Dhabi as a center for innovative water and energy solutions through ongoing global dialogue and targeted initiatives.
