Gulf Today reported that Dubai South Business Hub Free Zone operates as a fully digital platform enabling company registration, activity selection, document submission and license issuance entirely online. This setup allows founders to manage the entire process remotely without repeated visits to government offices. The approach targets entrepreneurs who prioritize efficiency during the initial stages of establishing a business in the emirate.
The free zone is positioned within Dubai South, centered around Al Maktoum International Airport and in close proximity to Jebel Ali Port, Etihad Rail and the main highway network, the publication stated. Such connectivity offers advantages for businesses engaged in trade, import or export activities by reducing logistics timelines and associated costs. Development assessments indicate the airport expansion will ultimately accommodate up to 260 million passengers and 16 million tons of cargo annually once all phases conclude.
Full foreign ownership is available without the need for a local sponsor while a single trade license can encompass up to five approved business activities at no additional charge, Gulf Today detailed. Further activities may be added later upon payment of a fee once initial documentation is verified as complete. License issuance follows approval of the submitted application materials.
Post-licensing assistance from the free zone includes introductions to providers for corporate bank accounts onshore and offshore in addition to guidance on VAT and corporate tax registration, the report noted. Support extends to visa processing and Emirates ID coordination for qualifying staff. These elements form part of an integrated administrative framework designed to ease setup for founders without extensive in-house resources.
Dubai World Trade Centre Authority figures show that nearly half of all companies in the emirate operate from its roughly 27 free zones. The zones generated an economic impact valued at AED 247 billion in 2021, representing 58.6 percent of Dubai’s GDP according to the authority. Such contributions highlight the established role of free zones in facilitating business activity and attracting investment.
UAE Embassy data places the contribution of free zones across the country at approximately 40 percent of total exports including re-exports while Dubai free zones alone account for 60 percent of the city’s goods exports. More than 40 such zones now function across the Emirates, a 2026 Middle East Briefing assessment found. This network continues to support non-oil economic diversification and foreign direct investment inflows.
Project reports indicate Dubai South is expected to generate around 750,000 jobs and sustain a population of up to 950,000 upon full build-out of its mixed-use districts. The area forms a core component of the emirate’s long-term infrastructure strategy tied to the Al Maktoum Airport development. Alignment with these projects enhances the free zone’s positioning for businesses seeking integrated logistics and growth opportunities.
