The Qatar Chamber said in a statement that board member Dr Mohamed bin Jawhar Al-Mohammed headed its delegation to the 22nd Malaysia International Halal Showcase held in Kuala Lumpur from September 23 to 26. The visit sought to reinforce cooperation between the Qatari and Malaysian private sectors while uncovering trade and investment prospects in halal industries. Al-Mohammed toured the exhibition alongside officials from the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation and held talks with multiple companies and organizations to link Qatari businesses with global suppliers and investors.

According to the chamber, Al-Mohammed met with H.E. Norshahrin bin Hamidon, president of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, and Dato’ Dr. Sirajuddin bin Suhaimee, director-general of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia. Those conversations examined economic and trade collaboration along with avenues to deepen private-sector partnerships in areas such as food production, halal goods, logistics, technology and investment. The engagements formed part of ongoing efforts to expand business connections between the two countries.

Al-Mohammed commended the strong economic and trade relations between Qatar and Malaysia in the Qatar Chamber statement. He pointed to considerable scope for increased private-sector cooperation as Qatari companies display rising interest in the global halal economy. The board member added that this interest now reaches beyond food and beverages into pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, tourism, logistics, technology and packaging.

Figures shared by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation place bilateral trade between Qatar and Malaysia at 402.6 million Qatari riyals in the first two months of 2026.[[1]](https://www.gulf-times.com/article/734044/business/expanding-halal-economy-opens-new-avenues-for-qatar-malaysia-trade) This builds on 3.1 billion riyals recorded for all of 2025 after a high of 5.76 billion riyals in 2024. The statistics illustrate the foundation upon which the latest halal-focused discussions aim to expand commercial activity.

A DinarStandard assessment found that the global Islamic economy reached 2.6 trillion US dollars in 2024 and is forecast to expand to 3.56 trillion dollars by 2029.[[2]](https://salaamgateway.com/reports/state-of-the-global-islamic-economy-sgie-202526-report) The same report kept Malaysia at the head of the Global Islamic Economy Indicator ranking. The Qatar Chamber described the Malaysian showcase as a vital venue for Qatari enterprises to form partnerships across halal value chains with producers, exporters and buyers from many nations.

The Qatar Chamber had received a Malaysian delegation from Malacca State earlier in September to explore comparable halal and investment openings. Board members at those meetings stressed the private sector’s part in broadening bilateral relations and noted opportunities in tourism, healthcare and halal industries. Such exchanges demonstrate the sustained focus both sides maintain on joint business growth.
