Qatar Stock Exchange data published by the Qatar News Agency showed the index opening at 8,620 after a 0.15 percent drop from the previous close. The transport sector sustained the largest decline at 1.77 percent while real estate fell 0.96 percent, consumer goods and services lost 0.91 percent and insurance eased 0.73 percent. Communications posted the strongest gain at 0.46 percent, followed by banks and financial services at 0.34 percent and industrials at 0.10 percent. The mixed sectoral performance reflects ongoing volatility in the Qatari equities market that has persisted through much of 2026.

Trading activity by 10:00 a.m. local time reached QR 29.2 million in value as 59.409 million shares changed hands through 4,636 transactions, the Qatar News Agency reported. These early session figures come against a backdrop of reduced liquidity seen in recent trading days across the exchange. The Qatar News Agency noted that the opening levels indicated continued pressure on several key sectors despite selective buying interest in others.

The opening follows a 2 percent decline in the previous session when the index closed at 8,633.57 points, an Amwal Al Ghad report stated. Six sectors closed lower in that session with industrials recording the steepest drop at 2.90 percent while communications was the sole gainer. A total of 174 million shares worth QR 320.6 million were traded across 30,400 transactions during the full day, the report added.

A QNB report carried by Gulf Times on October 17 detailed a 2.2 percent weekly loss for the index to close at 8,810.17 points the prior week with market capitalization falling 1.9 percent to QR 535.6 billion. Only 12 of 54 listed companies advanced that week while 41 declined, the QNB assessment found. Industries Qatar contributed the largest negative impact on the index during that period, the bank reported.

Trading Economics data places the QSE index down 19.92 percent over the past year with a monthly decline of 9.13 percent registered through mid-October. The benchmark reached a recent level of 8,810 points on October 15 before subsequent sessions extended the downward trend. CEIC Data figures show the equity market index stood at 9,244.5 in September, indicating a continued erosion of value through the final quarter of 2026.

Global foreign institutions maintained a net bearish position in Qatari equities of $54.4 million year to date, according to the QNB report. GCC institutions also recorded net sales of $6.1 million over the same period. These flows have contributed to sustained pressure on the index which remains below the 9,000 level in recent trading.
