The Sharjah Government Media Bureau has detailed more than Dh1.2 billion in development projects under way or completed across the emirate’s Eastern and Central regions during 2026. Projects handled by the Sharjah Department of Public Works total over Dh834 million in the Eastern Region and exceed Dh386 million in the Central Region, according to the bureau’s figures. The initiative follows directives from Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to improve infrastructure and quality of life while keeping pace with population growth. The bureau’s report covers both ongoing construction and facilities already handed over.

Kalba receives the largest allocation in the Eastern Region at about Dh618 million, the Sharjah Government Media Bureau reported. The completed second phase of Victoria International School there accounted for Dh184 million while extensions to government buildings along the city’s waterfront total a combined Dh185 million. Additional work in Kalba includes tourism and public park developments that form part of broader efforts to enhance community facilities. The department has coordinated with relevant authorities to maintain schedules and quality standards across these sites.

In Khorfakkan, the Sharjah Department of Public Works is advancing multiple community and sports projects valued at Dh112 million, according to the Media Bureau breakdown. Dibba Al Hisn sees just over Dh29 million committed to a nursery, waterfront amenities and beach park upgrades at the Sharjah Ladies Club. These Eastern Region investments extend to Al Bataeh, where a civil defence building and camel market are under construction alongside more than Dh25 million in parks and green spaces. The bureau noted that all projects align with the emirate’s wider growth objectives.

Education dominates the Central Region programme, absorbing Dh312 million of the total exceeding Dh386 million, the Sharjah Government Media Bureau assessment found. The Dh184 million Victoria International School in Al Dhaid represents the largest single outlay and has been completed. At the University of Al Dhaid, construction includes an Dh84 million theatre accommodating 1,000 people and a Dh42 million mosque. These facilities aim to support expanding student populations and cultural activities in the area.

Eng. Abdullah Al Tunaiji, Director of Branches at the Sharjah Department of Public Works, stated that the projects form part of the department’s plans to expand public facilities in line with the emirate’s growing population. He added that coordination continues across relevant authorities to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards. The Media Bureau emphasised that the programme reflects sustained investment in outlying areas to balance development across Sharjah.

This regional push forms part of Sharjah’s larger AED44.5 billion budget for 2026, which Arabian Business reported allocates 35 percent to capital projects and infrastructure as the top priority. The budget, approved by the Ruler late last year, also directs resources toward economic competitiveness and social welfare while maintaining financial sustainability. Infrastructure spending has risen steadily in recent budgets, building on earlier allocations that have modernised roads, utilities and public amenities throughout the emirate.
