Qatar News Agency reported that the QSE index jumped 1.46 percent at market open, adding 146 points to the benchmark in initial trading on October 26, 2026. This early surge comes as investors appear to be responding to potential opportunities in undervalued stocks following recent weakness. The gain marks a notable shift from the negative trend observed in the preceding sessions, with broad participation expected as the day unfolds.

A report from QNB Group released days earlier highlighted that the index had lost 199.07 points or 2.3 percent over the previous week to close at 8,611.10. Market capitalisation fell by 1.7 percent to QR526.4 billion in that period with more decliners than advancers among listed companies. Foreign institutions maintained some net buying interest despite the overall downward movement, a QNB assessment found.

The latest opening performance may help the index challenge resistance levels near 9,000 points that have capped gains in recent months. Only a limited number of stocks had driven the prior declines, including major banks and industrial firms. Sustained buying could broaden participation across the 54 listed companies if the positive tone holds.

Year-to-date the QSE has experienced a decline exceeding 20 percent, according to compiled exchange statistics through late October. This performance lags behind some regional peers amid global economic uncertainties and fluctuating energy prices. The current rebound at open offers a potential starting point for recovery if supported by positive corporate earnings or policy developments.

Trading volumes and specific sector leaders at the open were set to be detailed in subsequent updates from the exchange. Banks and industrials have historically influenced a large portion of index movements given their weighting. Real estate and insurance segments have shown mixed results in recent reporting periods.

The Qatar Stock Exchange serves as a critical platform for capital raising in the country, with ongoing efforts to enhance liquidity and attract international investors. Regulatory adjustments in prior years have aimed at improving market depth. The Monday development will be closely watched by market participants for signs of lasting momentum into the rest of the week.
