Qatar News Agency reported that Waseef Asset Management, a subsidiary of Barwa Real Estate Group, signed a cooperation agreement with the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development at the group’s booth during Cityscape Qatar 2026. Mohammed Ismail Al-Emadi, chief executive officer of Waseef, and Dr. Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Horr, chairman of GORD, signed the pact in the presence of Ahmed Mohammed Al-Tayeb, chief executive officer of Barwa Real Estate Group. The agreement focuses on boosting collaboration in sustainability, applying international standards for sustainable buildings, and studying solutions to rationalize energy and resource consumption while improving operational and environmental performance of real estate assets.
The agreement aligns with Barwa Real Estate Group’s strategy to strengthen efficiency and sustainability across its portfolio, according to details released by the group. Barwa Real Estate Group issued its inaugural sustainability report in May 2026 that demonstrated its dedication to the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030 while aligning operations with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The report followed Global Reporting Initiative Standards, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board guidelines, and Qatar Stock Exchange ESG indicators.
Barwa Real Estate Group owns one of Qatar’s largest diversified operating real estate portfolios distributed across 40 projects, Gulf Times figures show. The portfolio includes 69,400 residential units, 20 educational facilities, 438,000 square metres of commercial space, 500,000 square metres of logistics space, and 350 hotel rooms. The group recorded a net profit of QR588 million for the first nine months of 2026 with total assets of QR37.3 billion, according to its financial statements released this week.
GORD serves as a leading Gulf centre for research and development focused on sustainability standards, including the Global Sustainability Assessment System applied throughout the region. The partnership will allow Waseef to utilise GORD’s expertise and specialised solutions for enhancing building efficiency and environmental performance. Waseef signed additional memoranda of understanding with Wastech and Schneider Electric at the same event to advance sustainable and innovative solutions in property and community management.
The agreement supports Barwa Real Estate Group’s efforts to optimise its investment portfolio and maximise returns from assets while divesting non-income generating properties. Recent transactions included the sale of a land plot in Lusail City’s Jabal Thuaileb area and service plots in Mesaimeer, the group’s earnings report stated. Barwa Real Estate Group continues to develop projects such as Madinatna School and phases of Barwa Hills to diversify revenue and enhance sustainability of operating income.
Waseef will implement the agreement’s provisions in its role managing assets and facilities for the parent group. The cooperation reflects coordination with national objectives that prioritise sustainable growth in the real estate sector. Barwa Real Estate Group maintains a strategic plan structured around revenue growth, operational optimisation, and contribution to Qatar’s real estate development.
